Young School History

The Board of Directors has approved the request to place the Young School Building on the Independence Missouri Landmark Program.  These Independence Historic Landmarks are individual properties that have been determined to be historically significant by the City of Independence and have been designated as such by ordinance of the City Council.  The designations are granted at the request of the owner, and serves both as recognition for a property’s significance and as means of protecting the property from unmanaged change.  Once a Landmark is designated, the property is preserved in perpetuity according to the provisions of Independence Missouri Historic Preservation Ordinance.
